Final exhibition in Shenkar - Reflections of female figures in mirrors
Yarden Hasid was born in Rishon LeZiyon in the year 1992. She is presenting a series of paintings focusing on the reflections of women's’ figures in the mirror. In these artworks, women appear in intimate positions of self reflection.
Hasid is searching for the honest self reflection elements of women simply looking into a mirror, without the judgemental looks of men dissecting them. Women who are willing to reveal themselves, as they are, to the mirror as well as to the camera and to art.
Hasid is looking for the real moment; the one when a woman looks at herself in the mirror as the artist would look at her. Looking for the direct, self conscious regard. In the process of painting these works, she placed a mirror in front of the models and asked them to look at themselves, examine their features; those that they liked more, or less in themselves; and do so with a direct and level gaze.
Hasid’s paintings is in itself in a state of exposure. She leaves areas untouched and untreated - exposing inner layers and the thought behind the character construction. The mirror, the background becomes a question about the painting process. It is not just a shell, or covered in makeup. It confronts us with the history of painting and with the history of female representation.
